Motherhood is My Muse

Motherhood is my muse. As a new mom to a seven-week old daughter, I find the daily responsibilities of parenting are sparking my creativity in ways I've never known before. For example, every task now has a tune. Imagine my latest classics, such as "Let's Go Change Our Diaper," "There's More Milk Where That Came From" and "Mommy Doesn't Know Why You're Crying." Ok, so they may never make the Billboard Top 100, but at the moment they're my favorite songs.

Of course, lullabies are a staple of my tool kit. What many experienced moms know - and can't possibly explain to an unsuspecting novice until she's lived it for herself - is that when it comes to strategies for collecting a few extra Z's, even the most tone-deaf among us can become maestros. In fact, I'm betting lullabies were the first true custom-written songs, simply out of necessity.

If you're a mom, chances are you've invented a tune or two. It's the original ditty you sang to those beautiful little droopy eyelids at midnight... and again at 2 a.m., 4 a.m., and in random moments of panic from the driver's seat as the bundle in the back of the car awoke screaming. As much as we wish for that lullaby to work its magic, we may one day wish for it back... for just one more sleepless night, as our babies grow older and no longer need Momma's soothing voice.

At Keepsake Music, we offer a special service called "lullaby preservation." You share your baby's homegrown tune with us, and we'll capture it in sheet music or on CD. It's a memory from your child's early days. Store it in the baby book or display it at your "baby's" high school graduation.

One thing I'm certain of, after only seven weeks of motherhood - my baby is going to grow up. And I'll wish for these days back. Well, maybe not the diapers and the numbed brained cells from lack of sleep... but when I look at my daughter's precious little face, I know I'm blessed. And these moments are a gift to enjoy now and remember later. Why not make the memories last? Call us today. We'd love to hear your lullaby.
